Exploring optimal nutrition, training, and wellness with our canine companions.

Supporting canine education and health.

Pawsitively Primal takes a systems biology approach to overall health and wellness with a focus on three core philosophies in Nutrition, Training, and Environment (Wellness). These three philosophies are intertwined with the internal and external microbiome. We look at the natural evolutionary environment along with current scientific research to implement the least invasive protocols that build resistance and resilience in the animal and to its environment. We review evidence-based therapies for less-invasive and net-beneficial treatments that address the root cause of disease and not just cover up or treat symptoms. Pawsitively Primal created and implemented DC Shiba Inu Rescue’s training, nutrition, and environment program, working with over 400 rescues since 2012 along with referrals from trainers and veterinarians.

inspiration vs desperation.jpg

Change via Inspiration or Desperation

Many people follow the traditional veterinary approach for their pet's care because it is the easiest option. Typically, people won't change unless they have a desperate situation involving a medical crisis to re-evaluate their approach to health and delve into information that contradicts ones previously-held beliefs. With trepidation and skepticism, we make a leap into an alternative-yet-functional approach to pet medicine that has been variously derided as "fear-mongering", "woo", and "unscientific".

Infectious Disease for Chronic Disease

We will look at how the overuse of antibiotics, vaccinations, chemical dewormers, and other microbiome disrupting modalities are tied to the rise of chronic diseases that plague our companion animals.

food is the language that speaks to our genes.jpg

Food as Information

“Food is a language that speaks to our genes.” This means that the genes that are expressed are largely based on the foods that are eaten. Jeff Bland also notes that the language of food is very much the language of color and the diversity of exposure to these foods can modulate gene expression. Eat the rainbow. Diversity.
